Interior Design and Wall Art. Wall Art Matters in Interior Design
Interior design is the art and skill of improving the interiors, sometimes as well as the exterior, of a space or building, to attain a more artistically attractive environment for the end user. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such projects.
Creating a Focal Point
A basic principle in interior design is that a room needs a focal point or a sole component that draws the eye to when you enter the room. A great piece of wall art will do just this. Think of your fireplace or mantel, above your bed in the master bedroom or your dining area.
Think of your wall as a creative gallery wall somewhat like an art gallery, and you’re showing your art to whoever enters the room. Now imagine that gallery in your home. When selecting your gallery art remember to think of size.
If it’s too small it will get overtaken by the furniture and if it’s too big it will look like it’s taking over the space. So measure your space and think of what will fill the area with your wall art.
Color or Black and White
Selecting a color palette can be one of the most challenging times for a designer. The hundreds of different shades of paint available can drive you senseless. It can be extremely hard to narrow down the colors that best fit your vision for the space. If you think of your walls first, as in art or photography the colors will fall into place so much easier.
Many times you find a piece of art or photography that really grabs you and you buy it. Then when you get home you have a hard time making it fit into your room because of the color scheme. You could get lucky and the colors fit or you hang it anyway, but it looks out of place. If you find the art first you can then work around it.

Another thought would be to use black & white. Black & white art work usually fits into just about any color. It depends on your feeling with the colors, although black & white is generally in every room.
Look around at your rooms, you will see something black, white or both. A dramatic black piece & white will really pull attention to the viewer and fill the room with a strong feeling.
Wall Art Matters in Interior Design
Is wall art an afterthought? It’s what designers many times think of last. After the last coat of paint, and the furniture has been organized does anyone think of wall art? When thought of and chosen carefully the perfect wall art can control the entire room.
Canvas prints are nice, but not as expensive looking as a matted image with a frame. This really depends on the image and the room you plan to use the image in. Both make for great images with a different look and feeling. On the other hand you may have a room that needs a dramatic image for your focal point.
