The Oscars 2022 Awards Ceremony was disrupted by an incident between the actor Will Smith and the comedian Oscars presenter Chris Rock; after Rock made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Actor and comedian Chris Rock was on the stage presenting the award for the best documentary when he started making jokes about members of the audience, including Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Chris Rock made a “G.I. Jane 2” joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. “Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you,” the comedian said, about Jada’s shaved head and the film G.I. Joe, Demi Moore’s shaved head hairstyle. Jada Pinkett Smith has shared with her followers on social media that she has being diagnosed with alopecia and therefore decided to shave her head.
When Chris Rock made the “G.I. Jane 2” joke; Will Smith himself appeared to be laughing at first, but his reaction quickly changed. Will Smith then walked to the stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face. Will Smith returned to his seat and yell from his seat, “Leave my wife’s name out of your f***king mouth.”

Later on after the incident; Will Smith went on to win an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his performance in King Richard. During his acceptance speech, Will Smith took the opportunity to address the incident. Smith also shared with the audience that Denzel Washington told him, “In your highest moments, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you”.

Will Smith also apologised to the Academy and fellow nominees; “I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to my all my fellow nominees,” the actor said. “Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
